Watch out for tax scams in the new year
While scams tend to happen more often during the holiday season, people need to stay vigilant all year round. According to the Better Business Bureau's Scam Tracker website consumers in Michigan were hit by more than 500 scams in 2016. Over 25% of the scams listed were tax related. Often times people did not fall for the scam and nothing was lost, but in one instance a scammer stole $94,000 from a Norton Shores resident.
