American 1 Credit Union restores transactions at all Wendy’s restaurant locations.

11/18/2016
A little over one month after American 1 Credit Union announced that, in a bold move, they would temporarily be declining all credit and debit card transactions at Wendy’s, American 1 has restored transactions to Wendy’s on all of their cards.
American 1 originally reported that they believed the malware responsible for the Wendy’s cyberattacks was not contained due to reports from community members of fraudulent activity on their accounts even after reissuance of their debit or credit card. In a move to protect their members’ accounts, the credit union made the decision to decline all credit and debit card transactions at any Wendy’s location until they felt certain the information breach at Wendy’s had indeed been contained.

In a statement this morning, American 1 Credit Union CEO David Puckett said, “After numerous conversations with both Visa and Mastercard, we feel confident that Wendy’s has been able to successfully contain their data breach and that our members’ card information will be safe when used at Wendy’s locations. Our members are our top priority,” continues Puckett. “We are committed to doing whatever we need to do to keep their information safe and secure.”

American 1 has the largest card base of any financial institution in the Jackson County area with over 47,000 issued cards. The credit union reported that over 18,000 of their cards were compromised during the Wendy’s cyberattacks. The amount of stolen money American 1 returned to its members is just shy of the amount returned in the Home Depot cyberattacks with additional disputes being resolved daily.
