American 1 Credit Union Signs $200,000 Naming Rights Agreement For The Michigan Theatre of Jackson

Jackson, MI—American 1 Credit Union announced that it has signed a $200,000 naming rights agreement for the Michigan Theatre of Jackson.

Starting in 2022, the Michigan Theatre embarked on a restoration campaign to bring the theatre up to optimal operating and performance efficiency. American 1 Credit Union’s naming rights agreement allowed the Michigan Theatre to restore the marquee sign that lives above the theatre to preserve the historical significance.

“American 1 Credit Union continues to go above and beyond by supporting Jackson culturally, financially, and spiritually,” stated Steve Tucker, Executive Director for the Michigan Theatre. “Their commitment, not only their Home (Jackson), but the surrounding counties is unmatched and an example to be followed. We look forward to a continued partnership with American 1 as the historical significance of the Michigan Theatre continues to live on for generations to come.”

The Michigan Theatre, founded in 1930, was built for the mainstream popular entertainment of the day. The building's exotic Spanish style, lavish interior plasterwork, ornate polychrome terra cotta facade, carved walnut furniture, plush wool carpeting, heavy damask draperies, stained glass light fixtures, and oil paintings entertained the patrons as much as the attractions on the stage and screen. It was the first air-conditioned building in downtown Jackson and offered a place to escape the summer heat.

"Preserving the architecture that makes arts and entertainment accessible is important for our local communities," stated Martha Fuerstenau, President/CEO for American 1 Credit Union. "This agreement with the Michigan Theatre of Jackson will allow the building to live its legacy by receiving the restorations it needs, while still offering high-quality entertainment to the local community for years to come."

Established in 1950, American 1 Credit Union serves over 65,000 members, including over 270 employees, with 17 branch locations across Jackson, Washtenaw, Hillsdale, Lenawee, Wayne, and Calhoun counties. American 1, recipient of the Forbes Best-in-State Credit Union Award for 2023, is proud to serve the members of its communities by creating financial wellness through personal everyday banking.
