2025 Teacher Grants Awarded

9/22/2025

American 1 Awards $7,500 in teacher grants to empower local educators

At American 1 Credit Union, we believe that investing in education is investing in the future. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the recipients of our 2025 Annual Teacher Grant Program, which awarded $7,500 in classroom grants to 15 outstanding educators across the communities we serve.

Each teacher received a $500 grant to support classroom improvements, purchase essential supplies, and create more engaging learning environments for their students. These grants are part of our ongoing commitment to community enrichment and financial wellness—core pillars of our mission at American 1.

“At American 1, our mission is to create financial wellness within the communities we serve, including supporting educators and local schools,” said Haley Hemmig, Community Partnership Manager. “We’re proud to help ease the financial burden many teachers face and empower them to bring creative, engaging learning experiences into their classrooms.”

A Legacy of Educational Support

Since launching the American 1 Educational Grant Program in 2004, we’ve awarded $286,000 in grants and scholarships to 303 teachers and students across Jackson, Hillsdale, Lenawee, Calhoun, and Washtenaw counties. This initiative reflects our long-standing dedication to community outreach, member-focused solutions, and meaningful partnerships.

“We’re always looking for meaningful ways to invest in our community,” said Kelly Grygiel, Vice President of Communications. “Awarding these teacher grants allows us to directly support education and empower local educators to create impactful learning experiences for their students.”

Financial Wellness in Schools

In addition to our grant program, the American 1 Financial Wellness Department regularly visits local schools and youth organizations to teach essential financial literacy skills. These interactive sessions help students build a strong foundation for long-term success and demonstrate our commitment to financial education at every level.
